New support telephone line opened to answer student questions

We’re pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new toll-free support telephone line. This will be manned by trained support personnel in normal office hours and has been set up specifically to deal with student requests and service queries. The dedicated team will answer any questions about student studies and how they can continue to learn to speak English until full center operations are restored. The new telephone service can be reached by dialing 0800-085-889.

 

Please note that this number is for student support and we would request that this line is not used for other purposes in order to allow the Service team to provide maximum response and efficiency to students in Taiwan.

Want to participate in an online encounter? Had technical difficulties on your last encounter? Here are some FAQs to help you along and make sure you learn as much from your encounter as our dedicated teachers would like.

Q:  Are Online Encounters easy to use?

A:  Yes!  WebEx is a user-friendly conferencing software which will automatically install and run on your computer.  Once WebEx opens, your teacher will help guide you through the software to help you use it.

Q: Do I need any special equipment?

A:  You will need to have a headset with a microphone which allows you to hear the teacher and answer.  In addition, your computer will need to be able to run WebEx software and be internet-connected to use this service (please see our Online Encounters: WebEx user manual for details).

Q: Do I need a web camera?

A:  This is not necessary.  All teachers will use video equipment so you can see them, but it is optional for you to use a web camera.

Q:  How many students are there in Online Encounters?  How long is an Online Encounter?

A:  To maintain a high-quality experience, we limit the maximum number of students to two per encounter.  This ensures that you have plenty of time to practice and receive feedback from the teacher.  Each Online Encounter is 55 minutes long.

Q:  What will the booking procedure look like?

A:  It is quite easy –  please send an email to support@wallstreetinstitute.com instructing us that you want to request an online Encounter. Include your contact details in the email.  You will receive an email from the Online Encounter team to confirm the time and date of your class.   The email will begin like this: “Dear Student: Thank you for your interest in our online encounter class.”

Many of you have shown a keen interest in participating in our online encounter class – thank you! So that our Service team can respond to you efficiently and book your encounter, please complete this Online Encounters: Student Booking ticket. Please complete it and send it to the support@wallstreetinstitute.com email address, indicating “Online Encounter Booking” in the subject of your email.

Booking ticket information should include:

1)      Full Name

2)      Student Number

3)      Phone number

4)      E-mail

5)      Center which you study at:

6)      Encounter to book:

7)      Can you book on Morning / Afternoon / Evening?

8)      Can you book Weekdays?

9)      Can you book Saturday and Sundays?

The Service team will then schedule your online encounter class. Once it has been scheduled, you will receive an e-mail with the class date and time and the link so that you can join the online class. Please consult the Online Encounters: WebEx user manual if it is the first time you will be using WebEx technology.

We’re pleased to announce that the following Wall Street Institute operations will receive uncapped transfers for Taiwanese students, should you be interested in exploring this option:

  • China mainland
  • Hong Kong
  • Indonesia
  • South Korea
  • Thailand

International transfer policy usually limits transfers to one level but given the circumstances, students in Taiwan will be able to transfer for the full duration of their course.

We realize this option may not be suitable for everyone, but if you are interested in a transfer to one of these Wall Street Institute locations, please send an email to support@wallstreetinstitute.com and indicate “Transfer Request” in the subject of the email.

We have noticed some concern from students regarding the decrease in units available in your study records and whether this is counted as part of your core studies. We would like to emphasize that as you progress through the English Anytime course and you attend Encounters, your units have to decrease in the system otherwise you would not progress in your course or gain access to the next unit’s content.

Taking online encounters or using the online study options available to you will not negatively impact any future outcome on your course with Wall Street Institute International. You will not be penalized by us for taking online Encounters and, above all, this ensures that you can maintain your English and continue to progress.

However, given that WSI International is a different entity to WSI Taiwan, if you have any concerns about how this may impact your rights in relation to WSI Taiwan then you should seek legal counsel as we are not in a position to advise on this subject.

Hello students!

As many of you may know, online teaching encounters with students began on 20th August and so far they are being well received. This is an interim solution that WSI International is providing while we continue to seek a long term study solution on the ground in Taiwan.

We fully understand that many of you want to know about your teaching Encounters because these Encounters are a significant part of the WSI study cycle.  While you have access to English Anytime to continue your course study online and students have already started to receive their student manuals by post, we are delighted to inform you that we have been offering live video Encounters  since Monday, August 20. These Encounters are taught by fully-trained WSI teachers, have a maximum of two students at any one time, and use a webcam so that you can see and talk to your teacher.

If you are interested in booking your next Encounter, please can you contact our service team at support@wallstreetinstitute.com. We would be grateful if you could include the following information in your email:

  • Full Name
  • The name of your Taiwan center (eg 101 Center, Kaohsiung, Pan Chiao, Hsin Chu or Guan Qian)
  • Student Number (if you know it)
  • Phone number
  • An indication of the best time to call you to make arrangements

Our support staff will then contact you to book your next teaching Encounter.

We would like to emphasize that these online Encounters are only a temporary measure until a permanent solution has been developed. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress. You will find a guidance note on this site under IT support that explains what technology you need to make these online Encounters work well.

Hi everyone!

This is a friendly reminder to send us your postal address in English if you have not already done so, so that we can get your student manuals delivered to you so you can continue studying your course.  We have a dedicated team processing requests for manuals.  It is taking us some time to work through the high volume of requests, and we apologise if you are experiencing a delay. We are currently processing over 200 requests for manuals from students across Taiwan. Some of you have already received your manuals by post and have been kind enough to let us know – thank you. For those that haven’t yet received your manuals, we appreciate your patience as we process all of the requests.

Here are the key steps to get your manuals:

  • Step 1: You send us your full name, postal address in English, contact telephone number and the manuals you require to the support@wallstreetinstitute.com email address.
  • Step 2: We will confirm that we have processed your request. Once your request has been processed the manuals should take approximately one week to be sent to you. The manuals are sent by courier from Hong Kong and you will not be charged for this service.
  • Step 3: You will receive status information about your shipment and notification of when it has been dispatched from our warehouse. Please note that some deliveries have been delayed by the recent Typhoon which has forced some flights to be cancelled.
  • Step 4: You receive your student manuals by courier to the postal address you indicated to us. When you receive them, please tell us! Sending a quick email to confirm that you have received the manuals helps us to be more efficient and lets us know that we are achieving our goal of helping you continue to learn English. Thank you in advance!

If you haven’t yet contacted us about your manuals, please send an email to support@wallstreetinstitute.com indicating your full name, postal address, contact telephone number and the manuals you require.

If you have already sent an email to this address, there is no need to send another email as the Service team will contact you shortly.

They are working through the backlog as quickly as they can and we have added more resources to the team to speed up the process. Sending additional emails will only delay the speed at which we can respond to each student.

In our calls to students some of you have asked if you can transfer to Wall Street China to continue your study.

We are delighted to announce that we are able to offer uncapped transfers for the full duration of a student’s contracted course to mainland China. This means that Taiwanese Students can transfer to mainland China for the full duration of their course at no extra charge to any course fees already incurred.

We realise that this solution will not suit all students but we are pleased to be able to offer it to those of you that can take it up. In the meantime we will continue to work hard to find a permanent solution in Taiwan.

1. What continuing study options will be available to us?

Your current courses are made up of three core activities:

  • Multi-media coursework – this is available immediately to you online via our English Anytime service.

- If you already use English Anytime this will continue to be available to you. This is accessed via www.wsistudents.com.

- If you don’t already use English Anytime, we can assist you. Please visit the EA Access section of this microsite for more information.

  • Student Manuals – you should already have your student manuals for the level you are currently studying. We will send you manuals for the remaining levels you have purchased but not yet started. We need your contact information though. Please visit the Student Manuals section of this microsite for more details.
  • Online Encounters – we hope you have already taken part in the video-based Online Encounter. This temporary service allows you to have online face-to-face interaction with a teacher and continue studying your course. Please visit the Online Encounters section of this microsite for more details.

 

2. If I can’t go to a centre who can I talk to make sure that I am on track?

We plan to keep in contact with you on a regular basis to check on your progress. To be able to do this we need to make sure we have the correct contact information. Please email us at support@wallstreetinstitute.com and confirm the following:
- Your name
- Your contact details (telephone, email address, postal address)
- The Level you are currently studying
- The Levels that you purchased but have not yet started

If you have already emailed this address, please be patient and a member of our Service team will be in contact with you shortly.

 

3. How long has Wall Street international known about the schools in Taiwan closing?

We only became aware of the possibility of a closure on 1st August 2012 prior to the center closing on 3rd August 2012. Since then we have been working hard to put in place a satisfactory learning solution that will allow the students of Taiwan to achieve their educational goals. WSI International will offer continued educational support through both online activities and course delivery and we are working to establish some on-location support to further assist students with their study.

 

4. I have almost completed my course, do I have to start again?

No. We know where you are in the study cycle. With English Anytime, you will pick up the multi-media portion where you left off. We encourage you to continue working through your student manual exercises. We are working hard to establish some on-location support to further assist you with your study.

 

5. Who do I contact in the future about any further questions I might have about my course?

For any Service issues related to your course, we have set up a toll-free number in Taiwan (0800-085-889) that you can call to find out more information about the status of your request or your course level. For any standard IT issues, you should continue to contact servicedesk@wallstreetinstitute.com as you would have done prior to the closure.
